This course continues to evolve to bring you the most relevant information that you’ll need to know to become a top-level professional in the aerial yoga industry. The information is consistently being curated and refined from a commitment to ongoing education in the fields of traditional yoga, aerial yoga, aerial circus arts, and mental health counselling practices as well as collaboration with other instructors and time-honoured experience.
A large part of learning how to teach aerial yoga is to first master the postures! There are hundreds of possibilities for poses in this ever-evolving practice. We will focus in on 150 of the most accessible shapes to give you a foundation upon which you can build and expand as your practice takes off. The various class styles that we’ll explore are:
foundational postures and sequences for beginners
intermediate level flows, drops, and flips
restorative and nidra styles
With a strong focus on safely transitioning through postures, our process of breaking down each pose will ensure that you can guide any level of student into and out of postures with a high level of confidence in yourself, earning a deep level of trust with your students. Knowledge around safety includes modifications for injuries, contraindications that may put a student at risk, hands-on assists for safety, and other strategies I’ve learned over the years which help keep you and your students flying with grace.
Aerial Theory and Therapeutics
Aerial yoga is unique in its ability to combine the magical world of circus arts with the mindfulness of ancient yogic practices. I’ve designed the program by pulling together my experience as both a performing artist and a yoga instructor to create a balance between the two. We’ll delve into the theory behind flow states and how you can create opportunities for your students to experience flow. We’ll go deep on communication and how to most effectively cue your class while still developing your own personal teaching style. We’ll also dig into some concrete mindfulness-based therapeutic exercises and scripts that you can use in your classes as way of offering different approaches to cultivating presence.
Rigging and Equipment
Wondering how in the heck those hammocks are attached to the ceiling? Curious about how much weight can each sling hold? This section of training will answer all of your questions around how to properly rig and maintain the fabric and other components for aerial hammocks. We’ll also discuss where to purchase materials if you intend on pioneering your own aerial program.
The nitty gritty details about liability, waivers, insurance, advertising, and a bonus section on how to use Instagram and Facebook effectively for your business!
The doors are open and you’re invited to join us for Aerial Yoga Teacher Training! Yoga instructors, fitness/dance/gymnastics instructors, circus artists, dedicated yoga practitioners, and all curiously adventurous folks are welcome. There are many different intentions for taking a new course and for that reason, there are two types of certifications offered.
1. Aerial Yoga Instructor Certification:
This includes 40 hours of continuing education credits with Yoga Alliance. You’re eligible for this certification only if you currently hold a 200 hour (or more) Yoga Instructor Certification with another institution. You’ll need this form of certification if your intention is to teach aerial yoga.
2. Aerial Yoga Teacher Training Certificate of Completion:
If your intent is to become a more knowledgeable and embodied practitioner, capable of ease-fully flowing through your own practice at home or in class, then this certification is for you! It can also be upgraded to an instructor certification in the future should you ever wish to begin teaching. Please make a note in your application about which certification you intend to complete.
